This condominium was a blank slate. Take a look at the before photos. When we began, the walls were white, the carpet was beige, the kitchen had granite tops with peach and grey tones. We opened the wall between the dining room and kitchen. We added a wedge shaped wall in the entry to create privacy from the outdoor courtyard. We also tucked a hidden coat closet into the wedge. An overhead plane was added to define the entry and also doubled as a storage area for luggage.
Small spaces are a challenge. Using space creatively is a must. We had to design many hidden storage areas. Adding floor to ceiling cabinetry along walls allowed us to maximize the vertical storage available.
Sometimes big problems turn into the best design opportunities. For instance, the owner wanted a cooktop in the island. The shelves at the island were added to hide an electrical conduit required for the new cooktop. Because the floor was concrete slab, we couldn't run the electrical through the floor joists.
